The Victorian baroque Clayton House was originally built in the 1850's but renovated and enlarged in the 1880's by William Henry Harrison Clayton. Located in downtown Fort Smith, the grounds of the home have been beautifully preserved to retain their nineteenth-century feel. The splendor of the fully-restored house is enhanced by the finely crafted woodworking on the exterior of the building, the hand-carved staircases and a number of period furniture pieces.
